Central Algarve in Portugal was the first area to be developed for
tourism. Consequently there is now a wealth of holiday accommodation
with plenty of activities, such as golf, water parks and water
sports. The nightlife is also very popular because there are so many
bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Albufeira. The tourist capital of the
Algarve. If you're looking to make the most of your trip to the
Algarve, then Albufeira has to be visited. Albufeira boasts golden
beaches, luxury holiday resorts, golf courses, great restaurants and a
lively nightlife. Albufeira is the town of the Algarve. Vilamoura lies
at the heart of the Golfing country, with some of the worlds best golf
courses situated there, but there are also pleasant beaches, dramatic
cliff top walks and all manner of water sports. Silves, picturesquely
situated above the River Arade where its castle looms large, dates
back to the Romans. The castle is the Algarve's finest and dominates
the old Moorish capital, providing the streets with cool shade.

The Western Algarve has become
increasingly popular with holiday makers because of the extension of
the A22 motorway. It has an abundance of beautifully secluded
beaches and coves, dramatic cliffs and rolling waves that are often
perfect for surfers. Although often considered a more relaxed region,
the Western end also provides plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes to
relax in and enjoy the Algarvean way of life.
Lagos is a major port and historically one
of the region's most interesting cities. It has style, with its sleek
boats, designer boutiques and paved promenades. Fabulous beaches and
coves, an historic town with great shopping in its quiet cobbled back
streets combine to make the town one of the most sought after resorts
on the coast. Praia da Luz was a small
fishing villages only 25 years ago but is now firmly established as
villa and apartment resorts for holidaymakers. Most popular for its
beaches, this stretch of the coast has some of the best family beaches
in the Algarve. Clean, golden, sheltered and gently shelving.. The
Costa Vicentina national park borders this resort and extends north
all the way up to Odeceixe on the west coast, so the inland is rugged
and sparse but also a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. Eastern

The Eastern Algarve (which at its
furthermost point at Vila Real de Santo António joins Portugal to
Spain by a road bridge to Ayamonte) is the least developed region.
Here the long uninterrupted beach runs from Vila Real de Santo António
to Cabanas. The Eastern end is very flat compared to the other
two areas, which makes it very popular with cyclists and walkers,
and anyone who wants to visit the beach with ease
(particularly nice for elderly or disabled visitors).
Tavira is full of architecture, described
as the the Venice of Algarve, Tavira stands on two hills on either
side of the River Gilao, the two sides of the town being linked by a
seven-arch bridge. Golf

magnificent championship courses ever designed: Penina, Vilamoura and
Vale do Lobo.
