Aljezur Region Resort Information

The Aljezur Region of the Algarve in Portugal offers a wide range of holiday resorts to suit all ages and budgets.

Aljezur Village is a small hamlet with just a few bars, restaurants and shops. The river that divides Aljezur was once navigable but today is just picturesque in spring and autumn and dry in summer. The 'Old Town' is built on a hill that leads up to the castle. The castle was built by the Moors in the 10th Centuary. There are an array of small museums and galleries dotted along the narrow winding medieval streets & alleyways leading up to the castle. Crossing the river past the local 'strip faming area' leads to the 'New Town'. This is dominated by the new Church 'Igreja Nova' which has given its name to this part of the town. A colourful gypsy monthly market takes place at the top of the new town on the third Monday of each month.

The Costa Vicentina park covers 80 kilometers of the Western Atlantic coast. It is a protected area and it is the natural habitat for almost 100 species of wild flowers which have adapted to life in a salt laden, sun scorched atmosphere. The land ranges from soft sand dunes to rocky outcrops. Animals roaming include foxes, wild boar, rabbits and the area has many species of birds. The holiday destination of Vale da Telha is situated within the park, buildings started to be constructed over 20 years ago and today there are over 1500 villas tastefully situated within the National Park with stunning views of the countryside.

We have a number of properties situated a very short distance from some of the best beaches in Aljezur including Arrifana, Monte Clerigo, Praia do Amado, Carrapateira and Vale de Figueiras. Within 2 kms of Vale da Telha lies the Blue Flag beach and rugged coast of Arrifana. Sunbathers enjoy the small but white sandy beach and surfers catch the waves waiting for the world famous Kangaroo Wave when the wind and currents coincide to provide a huge barrel ride for the intrepid. Monte Clerigo is a large Blue Flag beach a few kilometres from Vale da Telha and is part of the Natural Park southwestern Alentejano and Costa Vicentina. The beach is long with clean and cool water and has excellent facilities with easy access for parking. The settlement of Monte Clerigo has a number of restaurants by the beach which provides a perfect back-drop for al fresco dining. The beach of Amoreira is futher out from Vale da Telha and is approximately 8km from Aljezur. The beach is very large with the Aljezur river emptying into the Atlantic ocean which provides an excellent location for swimming without the waves.
