Benidorm is the biggest holiday resort on the Costa Blanca. Nowadays the 6km of beach area along Benidorm' s frontage attracts an average 180,000 people. Families from all over Europe flock to Benidorm in the summer and in the winter. The shopping areas are typical touristy shops offering all manners of goods. Benidorm has a youthful and pulsating nightlife with many discos and nightclubs, endless bars and fine restaurants. Here you can party till dawn. Benidorm has two crescent shaped beaches with golden sand that is always well cared for and clean. This makes it an ideal family holiday resort. The old part of Benidorm sits on the piece of land that divides the two beaches. The greatest concentration of shops and entertainment is to be found here. In Benidorm you can entertain yourself on the beaches, sample go-karting, ten-pin bowling or take in two theme parks, the water features at Aqualand or watch a dolphin show.

Benidorm Resort Information

The Benidorm Region of the Costa Blanca in Spain offers a wide range of holiday resorts to suit all ages and budgets.

Benidorm is situated in the Marina Baja area of the Costa Blanca. In 1953 Benidorm was a tiny fishing village unheard of in the UK. Now Benidorm is heavily developed, its high rise apartments seen from the motorway look almost futuristic and there is certainly no shortage of accommodation, restaurants, shops and nightlife. The town may be disconcerting for those looking for a quiet place to say, but for energetic types who can sunbathe all day and party all night, there is no better place. Its fine, sandy, clean beaches and transparent water are what have made Benidorm the tourist centre that it is today. The most popular beach is the Playa de Levante, 2km from the old town centre and in the height of summer, there may be little room to manoeuvre there. The slightly quieter Playa de Poniente is situated on the edge of the old town centre. The white stone balcony at the historical centre of Benidorm, the Canfali vantage point, affords generous views over the town.

Travel just 3km south of Benidorm and you reach the resort of La Cala Finestrat, a much quieter beachfront resort, ideally situated in close proximity to the buzz of Benidorm. This resort has much more of a traditional Spanish feel and lies at the foot of the massive mountain peak Puig Campana, which can be clearly seen from the beaches of its neighbouring Benidorm.

Continue your travels south of Benidorm and you reach the lovely little town of Villajoyosa, 10km south of Benidorm. Famous for its chocolate and brightly coloured houses. Fishing is a main source of income by the locals, which means the restaurants are an excellent choice for fresh fish dishes.

Travel north of Benidorm and you reach the pretty town of Altea, just 15km north of Benidorm, Altea is one of the few towns which maintained most of the former fishing village flair of the past times. Famous for its church Nuestra Senora del Consuelo or Virgen de Consuelo with its fantastic looking blue roof. One of the view places along the Coast, Altea centre still gives you this kind of Spanish village feel. Head into the mountains and you reach Altea Hills, a superb holiday resort with outdoor swimming-pools, heated swimming-pool, health and beauty centre, four tennis courts and four paddle courts, squash court, golf-practice course, gym, sauna, playpark, cafe and the "Altaya" restaurant, amazingly overlooking the Altea bay, where you will enjoy the best Mediterranean cuisine.

Albir is situated 3 km South of Altea. The beach at Albir offers a wide range of leisure and pleasure activities. Behind the beach is the thriving resort of Albir, with supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and bars and a lovely beach promenade. Alfaz del Pi old town is 2 kilometres in from the coast and has a different taste to it than the beachfront in Albir. Pay a visit to the San Jose church and do not miss out to try the typical local tapas. Alfaz del Pi has one golf course. The Castillo del Conde de Alfaz is the place for an unusual but superb entertainment with "medieval" knights giving a fantastic show of expert jousting and horsemanship. The castle is close to Alfaz del Pi on the road towards Benidorm.

  Just inland from Benidorm itself are a number of pretty villages that have great views down towards the coast and the resort of Benidorm. La Nucia is located in a quiet valley 10 kilometres from Benidorm. The village has retained its original charm with white houses looking down over the slopes of the mountains out onto the coast. A market is held on Sunday mornings, where second hand goods stalls stretch for over 2km through the village.
