Visa Requirements

A full British 10 year passport is required for entry into Cape Verde, valid for at least 6 months after your date of arrival back in the UK. All British Nationals require a visa to enter Cape Verde issued on arrival in Sal.

Immunisations

No international immunisation is needed when entering Cape Verde.

Electricity

The electrical current in Cape Verde is of 220 Volts / 50 Hz and the plugs and sockets are under European regulations. The best thing would be to equip yourself with a suitable transformer before travelling, to avoid damaging any electrical appliances.

Currency

The currency in Cape Verde is escudo expressed as $ or CV Esc before the figure which can only be obtained on the islands. Euros are generally widely accepted and we recommend that you take these and keep them locked away in your safe which can be found in either your room or at reception in all hotels across the islands. There is a fixed exchange rate of $110 to €1 which is equal to $163 to the pound. 

Tipping

All prices normally include taxes and service, but it is common to tip services like taxis or restaurants around 5%, or just some change in case of small amounts like in a café or bar.

Travellers cheques can be exchanged on some islands but charges are high and delays lengthy so we advise against this.
