Estartit Tourist Information - Costa Brava

Estartit forms part of Torroella de Montgrí, the Mountain of Montgri divides the Alt and Baix Empordà on top of the mountain range the Castle of Montgrí. L'Estartit itself is a tourist resort and one of the attractions are the Marine Reserve of Les Medes. These are a protected nature reserve, with a important colony of herring gulls and a fabulous underwater life. Divers from all over visit the islands on a regular basis although there are now restrictions on the access to the area. Estartit has everything to offer the discerning visitor. Situated on the northern end of Spain's Costa Brava about 65 km from the French border. Girona airport (served by Ryanair from many UK airports) is 45 minutes by car, Barcelona and Perpignan (served by Ryanair, Easyjet and BMI) 1hr 45 minutes. Estartit is a small town with a Marina and 6 km of sandy beach looking out to the beautiful Medas Islands, famous for it's marine life. Diving, Horse Riding, Micro lighting, Mountain Walks are all available. Sightseeing tours to Barcelona, Gerona, Figueras, Montserrat etc can be booked in the town. Four golf courses are within half an hour by car from Estartit. The town has a wide selection of bars and restaurants catering for all tastes. Inland there are many unspoilt medieval villages again with excellent restaurants. For those who prefer quieter beaches, the coast either side of Estartit is full of sleepy unspoilt coves with crystal blue water. Estartit itself boasts a bustling sanding beach, which slopes gently into the warm Mediterranean. For those who prefer a quieter location Torre Vella is situated half way between medieval market town of Torroella de Montgri and Estartit. Villas & Houses are set on a pine-covered hillside looking down to the sea & mountains. This estate has its own clubhouse with bar, restaurant and swimming pools. A car is essential although Estartit is only 3 Kilometres.

Estartit is situated on the northern end of Spain's beautiful Costa Brava. This lovely resort once a small fishing town has now grown into a popular holiday resort. It boasts a 6km stretch of unspoilt sandy beach arguably among the finest beaches on the Mediterranean coast. Every Thursday there is a large open-air market and the Santa Anna has a large variety of shops to browse. It also host a varied range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs to cater for all tastes. Activities such as windsurfing, sailing, water-skiing, and boat hire are all available. In addition to this Estartit, and in particular the protected Medas Isles are considered one of the best spots on the Mediterranean fore scuba-diving, and numerous diving schools including BSAC and PADI approved centres exist. For the less nautical of you there are tennis, squash, horse riding, micro lighting, go carting and four nearby golf courses.

Torroella-De-Montgri is within a few kilometres of Estartit and is an older and more traditional Catalan village. A market is held every Monday, which is well worth a trip. A little further a field is the picturesque medieval town of Pals. At L'Escala you will find some very interesting Roman ruins. Figueres is famous for the Dali museum. La-Bisbal for typical Catalan ceramics. Aguablava a beautiful cove famous for it's crystal blue waters, this is an ideal spot for children and snorkelling as the bay is protected from the sea, and hence the water is both calm and free of currents. Barcelona is app 1 ½ hours away with it's many museums, art galleries and historical landmarks for the culture vultures among you, the food and drink connoisseurs can choose from over 3000 restaurants and 2000 bars to lap up the smell and taste of Catalonia's capital city. Gerona the nearest major town app 45mins away is also rich in heritage and culture, and to walk around the old town is a sheer delight
