Nerja lies on the eastern most tip of the Costa del Sol, where the mountains meet the sea, 50 kilometres from Malaga airport. Once a sleepy fishing village, Nerja has retained its Andalucian character, particularly in the old quarter with its narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. At the heart of the town is the Balcon de Europa, a palm tree lined promenade built along the edge of a cliff and out to sea with panoramic views of the Mediterranean. Nerja's most spectacular attraction has to be its caves. Nerja has nine sandy beaches stretching to over 16 kilometres in total. Many of the beaches are within easy reach of the town. Nerja town centre is charming with a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants as well as shops. We have a selection of over 160 holiday properties to rent in Nerja with stunning views.

Nerja Resort Information

The Nerja Region of the Costa del Sol in Spain offers a wide range of holiday resorts to suit all ages and budgets.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes here to choose from, and the visitor can hire a horse-drawn carriage to explore the most romantic corner of the town. The town's monuments include the 17th century Church of El Salvador, in a style which is a charming mixture of baroque and Moorish, or mudejar, and the beautiful Gardens of Capistrano Playa, which descend to Burriana Beach.

Nerja's most spectacular attraction has to be its caves. The Cueva De Nerja is regarded as one of the most historic monuments of the world, with archeological remains dating back thousands of years. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall where many performances are staged. Located just three kilometres from the centre of town, they include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains.

One of Nerja's attractions is its 16 kilometres of beaches, no less than 9 separate beaches to chose from spread along the whole of the Nerja seafront. Playa El Playazo is situated on the West side of Nerja. It is a large beach where many enjoy windsurfing and sail-surfing along the sandy waters. There are a few beach bars and at the end of the beach is the Marinas de Nerja Hotel. Playa de la Torrecilla is a very popular beach with holiday makers as it's big enough to accommodate many activities. There are paddle boats to hire, canoes, banana rides, windsailing all available from the beach front. Immediately behind the beach are a variety of bars and cafes. Playa del Salon is another popular beach for many, gaining easy access from a pathway directly at the Balcon de Europa in the heart of Nerja. There are a number of beach bars and cafes along the beach. Plaza del Salon has one of the best sandiest beaches in the area. You can walk along to Playa La Caletilla and round to the Balcon. Playa La Caletilla is directly at the West side of the Balcon de Europa in the heart of Nerja. Directly behind the beach is the Hotel Balcon de Europa were you can enjoy a light lunch in their restaurant. This is popular little beach as it's sheltered in a cove and has pure sand, giving easy access to the water. Playa Calahonda is directly at the East side of the Balcon de Europa in the heart of Nerja. This is one of the most picturesque beaches and most photographed. Easily accessible from the Balcon with steps leading down to the beach. Fishermen still repair their nets and go fishing from this beach. Playa del Chorrillo is a very secluded beach hard to get too due to the footpath being temporarily block off due to cliff erosion. There are no restaurants or facilities here like the other Nerja beaches, but still it's an ideal place to get away from the bustling crowds of Summer. Playa de Carabeo is a sheltered cove. It is easily accessed from Calle Carabeo one of the oldest streets in Nerja with plenty of holiday atmosphere. From the road there is a small balcony with steep steps leading down to the beach. Playa Carabeillo is situated on the East side of Nerja next to the famous Burriana Beach. The beach is within easy access of the Mirador del Bendito having steps leading down to the beach. A mixture of sand and small shingle. Playa Burriana is by far the most popular beach in Nerja. It is a large beach with so many activities one can enjoy, windsurfing, sailing, paddleboats, football & volleyball. Along the walkways there are plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes. Playa del Maro is a very popular and yet secluded beach. Only about 1.5km from Nerja it easily accessible by road, as there is a roadway leading down to the beach. The waters are protected as a marine national park, so many people enjoy snorkelling here.

 Nerja enjoys a wonderful climate and is said to have the best Climate in the entire Costa del Sol. The area enjoys well over 300 days of sun each year and has an average temperature of approximately 20 degrees. There is very little rainfall in Nerja and what does fall occurs mostly during the winter months. May and October are excellent months to visit with warm temperatures, but the real heat arrives in July and August when temperatures can reach 40 degrees.

 Just 30 minutes from Malalga Airport and with a huge number of cheap flights from UK and European airports every day, this makes taking a Nerja holiday rental so popular, and relax in the beautiful Costa del Sol.
