Complete Holidays - Helping you find your perfect holiday home in Spain

Spain has so much to offer the tourist. The festivals and fiestas throughout the year, from streets carpeted in flowers to films-by-the-sea, from the running of the bulls to concerts and ballet in the gardens of the caliphs. Superb cuisine including Paella and Sangria are world-famous, but so is the Tapas, served free in bars with your drinks. Great historic monuments & attractions including Guggenheim Museum that has transformed Bilbao, Gaudí and the architecture of Barcelona a must visit city as any in Europe. The capital, Madrid, has over fifty museums and a palace with 2,600 rooms. Tropical islands, hidden hill towns, Roman cities. Mountains have snow past Spring and excellent skiing in the morning and close enough to the coast to sunbathe in the afternoon, it can only be the Sierra Nevada.

Spain can be enjoyable any time of year. The ideal months to visit are May, June and September (plus April and October in the south). At these times you can rely on good-to-excellent weather, yet avoid the extreme heat - and the main crush of Spanish and foreign tourists - of July and August. But there's decent weather in some parts of Spain virtually year round. Winter along the southern and south eastern Mediterranean coasts is mild, while in the height of summer you can retreat to the northwest, to beaches or high mountains anywhere to escape excessive heat. The best festivals are mostly concentrated between Semana Santa (the week leading up to Easter Sunday) and September to October.

With the Costa del Sol weather giving average annual temperatures of 18ºC and over 300 days of sunshine per year it isn't difficult to understand why it is one of Europe's top holiday destinations. There are around 70 Costa del Sol golf courses on the "Costa del Golf" which can be played all year round as well as a whole range of other activities available such as sailing, scuba diving, horse riding, dolphin safaris, etc. The list is endless. Away from the coast there are numerous excursions into the real Spain with the cities of Ronda, Seville, Cordoba and Granada all accessible for day tours. For the more adventurous you can also take a 15km trip across the Straits of Gibraltar to visit Tangier in Morocco. Malaga is the stepping stone to the Costa del Sol. Relatively few visitors visit the city as they rush from the airport to their holiday resort. In doing so they miss a gem of a city with a fascinating old quarter next to a Roman theatre and Moorish palace, a commercial centre with first class shopping and a vibrant social life. Marbella is famous as a playground of the rich and famous, Marbella is now accessible to many who swarm south to enjoy the Spanish sunshine and the world class golf courses of the Costa del Golf. Mijas Pueblo stands high up the mountain above the coastal resorts and is a popular ½ day excursion from the Costa del Sol whilst Mijas Costa is the resort on the coast below which attracts mass tourism to its many attractions. During the 1950s and 60s Torremolinos was converted from a quaint fishing village into the Costa del Sol's original tourist resort.  Today it is a concrete jungle but with fine beaches and ample accommodation it has plenty to offer. Lying a short distance south west of Malaga airport between the famous resorts of Torremolinos and Fuengirola, Benalmadena has plenty to offer the whole spectrum of visitor types. The third major high rise resort heading south from Malaga, Fuengirola is especially popular with British tourists of all ages especially families and middle aged groups. Estepona  is the most westerly resort of the Costa del Sol.  It has avoided too many of the high rise blocks of many of the other resorts and is an ideal choice for those people looking for a quiet holiday. Nerja is the most easterly resort of the Costa del Sol which still somehow maintains a reputation as a quaint village.  This is no longer the case as the inevitable tourist developments have transformed the town into a thriving resort but without the high rise excesses of the western Costa del Sol. Sotogrande marina is the first port of call for yachts entering the Mediterranean. It is also home to two of Europe's finest golf courses including Valderrama.

Year-round sunshine makes the Costa Blanca an ideal choice for every type of villa or apartment vacation - whether you seek peace and relaxation; fun and recreation, or a perfect balance between the two. The Costa Blanca’s main attraction is its stunning coastline, which is lined with Blue Flag beaches famed for cleanliness, pure waters and pristine white sands. From well-known sands to secluded coves and rocky bays, there’s a wealth of Costa Blanca shoreline to choose from – some perfect for swimming and waterskiing, others for windsurfing, snorkelling and hiring pedaloes. Numerous other beaches, mainly golden sand, can be found in the surrounding area. Local facilities cater superbly for every visitor, whether families or couples. Those looking for sightseeing, sporting or tourist activities will be spoilt for choice here in one of Spain’s most popular leisure-filled regions. You can pick from theme parks and nature reserves, enchanting caves and waterfalls. Costa Blanca golf courses [also link to Golfers’ page] and watersports fill the coastline, along with a wide range of excursions – making it an ideal destination for a family holiday. Explore inland villages, vineyards and fragrant citrus groves, or visit the historical churches dotted throughout the region. Travelling between the Costa Blanca’s resorts and towns is easy: Good road networks make car journeys stress-free, and buses are both frequent and inexpensive. In the far south is the popular area of Orihuela Costa, with its wonderful coastal resorts including Cabo Roig, Playa Flamenca, Punta Prima, Torrevieja & Guardamar del Segura. This area of the region is just 20 minutes from Murcia Airport, and a fantastic location for a cheap holiday rental in the sun. Ryanair operates cheap flights from Stansted and other regional airports, and the rental properties in this part of the Costa Blanca are extremely good value, especially the beachfront resorts. In the North of the region are the popular resorts of Marina Baja including Benidorm, Marina Alta including Javea and the capital of the Costa Blanca Alicante with its main airport.  These resorts are extremely popular due to the close distance to the main airport at Alicante with numerous cheap weekly flights from all over Europe. As well as its beautiful sandy beaches, the North Costa Blanca has a fantastic mountainous backdrop providing shelter from the cold winds, adding to its attraction especially as a winter holiday destination.

The coast of Murcia on Spain’s Costa Calida, has 200km of beaches on both the Mediterranean and Menor seas. The varied landscapes of the region have made Murcia a unique holiday destination, where lush valleys interrupt desolate deserts, and modern beach resorts like La Manga neighbour small traditional fishing villages. A Murcia villa also offers the opportunity to explore the long history of the area, with Greek, Cartheginian, Roman and Moors architecture and places of interest. The beach resorts of Cartegena & Mar Menor are both a beach and water sport haven. With the unique natural salt water lagoon and double sided beach, Mar Menor caters for the windsurfing and sailing communities, as well as providing completely safe swimming for small children. Located around Cartegena and Mar Menor are the resorts of La Manga Club, Los Alcazares & The Polaris World Golf Resorts. La Manga is the world’s finest sport and leisure resorts, with some of the best luxury villas in Murcia, end endless facilities for golf, tennis, squash, crazy golf, pitch and putt golf, mountain biking, go karting, walking and all water sports.

Costa de la Luz, also known as the “Coast of Light”, this is the western part of the Andalucian coastline and faces the Atlantic Ocean. Costa de la Luz’s sand is fine and golden and backed by sand dunes and pine trees with strong waves and winds good for surfing. Chiclana de la Frontera sits on a large salt marsh, where the pine forests meet the Atlantic beaches of the Costa de la Luz in the National Park of the Bay of Cadiz. The town is a traditional Andalucian whitewashed town, with squares filled with bright flowers and all the traditional aspects of Spanish life, bullfighting, flamenco and delicious wines. Chiclana de la Frontera has all this, and of course a long straight sandy beach. Zahara de los Atunes is a windswept Spanish village with a stunning 20km stretch of fine white sands, guarded by the magnificent ruins of Castillo de las Amadrabas. Both Conil de la Frontera and Vejer de la Frontera are prime examples of what Andalucian Spain should be like. Strict development rules have meant that there are no high rise buildings of monstrous hotels, just fine Andalucian Costa de la Luz holiday villas for rent and attractive whitewashed Costa de la Luz properties. The locals in Vejer de la Frontera and Conil de la Frontera are lively and very welcoming of tourists, and the streets are vibrant in the evenings, but without the British bar and club culture of the neighbouring Costa del Sol. Both towns boast fabulous beaches and the opportunity to hire a bike, go for a hike, surf, windsurf or play a few rounds of golf.
