St Lucia is one of the Windward Islands in the centre of the Eastern Caribbean. It is a small, tropical treasure which is still largely off the tourist trail, with indescribably stunning peaks covered in thick rainforests, where exotic plants and animals thrive. Often referred to as the ‘Helen of the West Indies’ after the beauty of Helen of Troy, Britain and France went to war 14 times over this tiny island, which may hint at the staggering desirability of St Lucia.

St Lucia offers some of the best sea fishing anywhere in the world, and every type of vessel is available for charter. There are several big game fish in the waters of St Lucia, including the ultimate trophy; white marlin. Aside from this, windsurfing, water skiing, para-sailing, banana boating and many other sports are available, but it would be insane to take self catering St Lucia accommodation without going snorkelling or scuba diving. St Lucia is home to some of the most diverse dive sites known in the Caribbean, which is not a small accolade. Whale and turtle watching excursions are hugely exciting too. Of course the beaches of St Lucia will take up a huge amount of your St Lucia holiday, and rightly so. The interior of the island is covered in thick rain forest, where the St Lucia National Trust have created some magnificent walking, mountain biking and hiking trails, jeep safaris, quad tours and bird watching excursions to see the rare Jacquot parrot. Surprisingly, there are also three golf and spa centres in St Lucia, offering two excellent 18 hole golf courses and three picturesque 9 hole golf courses. St Lucia has been inhabited for many years, and evidence of the islands long past can be seen in the fascination mosaic of ancient fortresses, open-air markets and tiny villages.
